Brighton & Hove Municipal Waste Management Strategy Ecosys are working with the Brighton & Hove Council/Cityclean to prepare a Municipal Waste Management Strategy (MWMS). The strategy will focus on recycling, composting, residual waste collection, street cleansing, communication and enforcement. The overall objectives of the MWMS will be to ensure that: · Waste is managed more sustainably, in line with the waste hierarchy. · Compliance with legislation, and minimising financial liabilities associated with the Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme (LATS). · Meeting or exceeding statutory and non-statutory targets and meeting the requirements of the emerging updated national waste strategy published by DEFRA. · It achieves continuous improvements in service and contributes towards the Council’s priorities. The role of Ecosys in this process is primarily focused on carrying out the sustainability appraisal in terms of its contribution to sustainable development at a local, regional and national level. |
